Family Law Conference 2022: The latest and greatest family law cases
This session will provide an overview of recent notable family law cases in the ACT and nationally.
Dr Juliet Behrens
Dr Juliet Behrens is a nationally-recognised expert in family law. Between 1991 and 2010 she was a legal academic at the Australian National University. She has authored many family law publications, including as co-author of Australian Family Law: The Contemporary Context (Oxford University Press). Juliet practised as a solicitor from 2009-2016, specialising in family law, including family law litigation. She was admitted to the Bar in 2017 and is an accredited mediator under the NMAS. She is a member of the Dispute Resolution Panel of Legal Aid (ACT) and a Professional Member of the Resolution Institute. She is also a member of the Family Law Committees of the ABA and ACT Bar Association. She has completed the Independent Children Lawyers’ Training and accepts briefs from ICLs. Juliet specialises in family law (parenting and property) disputes, both as an advocate and as a mediator.
Gavin was called to the Bar in 2010 having been admitted as a solicitor in 1993. He has practiced exclusively in family law since 1995. Prior to being admitted as a solicitor, Gavin was a Clerk of the Local Court in regional NSW (Tumut and Tumbarumba) and was also a coroner in those areas. Gavin is chair of the ACT Bar Association’s Family Law Committee, the Bar’s representative on the Law Society’s Family Law Committee, and a member of the Professional Standards Committee of the ACT Law Society. Gavin has presented regularly on family law and ethics topics.
