2022 Intensive: Governance issues in the legal profession

The 2022 CPD Intensive Series: Governance issues in the legal profession

Any lawyer who runs a business or holds a board role needs an understanding of corporate governance. The basic principles are universal, but there are issues that are specific to lawyers and law firms, where you have obligations to support your clients as well as ensuring your own firm is governed effectively. Presented by the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), this session will give you an overview of the governance issues lawyers need to keep in mind, and offer some useful advice on where to go next for more comprehensive information.

Phil Butler, Not For Profit Sector Leader, Australian Institute of Company Directors

Phil Butler is the Not For Profit Sector Leader for the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) in Canberra. In this role, he has worked closely with Boards, CEOs and Directors of organisations in those sectors. Since 2011, he has led the Not for Profit Project for AICD, supporting the NFP sector to achieve their respective missions through ongoing improvements in governance and to build greater awareness of the contribution of NFP directors and support their professional development. Phil is a Graduate of the Company Directors Course and a member of CPA Australia. He has been on a range of boards of NFP and Government organisations and recently stepped down as a Director of Alzheimer’s Australia ACT.
