Consultation on the Solicitors' Conduct Rules

The ACT Law Society is consulting members and the public on proposed amendments to the Legal Profession (Solicitors) Conduct Rules 2025 (No 2). These proposed amendments, endorsed in principle by the ACT Law Society Council on 20 April 2026, follow a consultation process led by the Law Council of Australia on amendments to the Legal Profession Australian Solicitors' Conduct Rules 2015 (ASCR). To ensure alignment with the ASCR and to support practitioners in complying with AML/CTF reforms, the Society is looking to amend the Rules to incorporate these changes.

By adopting these proposed amendments, we seek to:

  • Align the ACT's rules with the ASCR as revised by the Law Council of Australia;
  • Promote consistency across jurisdictions, reducing complexity for legal practitioners; and
  • Support practitioners in responding to the ethical and professional responsibility challenges that may arise for solicitors from 1 July 2026.
