Practising Certificate renewals and fees

The COVID-19 emergency and its associated restrictions have had wide-ranging effects on the legal profession.

The ACT Law Society is aware of the impact on many legal practitioners and firms in our region, and we are seeking to support our members where we can.

To help our members weather the current crisis, the Council of the ACT Law Society has agreed to implement a number of measures in 2020/21, including offering practising certificate fee relief. We have ensured that some relief will be provided to all members, and especially to those members most affected by the COVID-19 lockdown.

Council has agreed:

  • to offer all members three hours of CPD free of charge (a saving of approximately $264);
  • to apply a 20% reduction on the 2020/21 practising certificate fees for private and in-house practitioners (a saving of between $146 and $210); and
  • that there will be no increase to the Fidelity Fund levy for the 2020/21 financial year.

In addition, the capitation fees payable to the Law Council of Australia will be reduced from $108 to $54 for the 2020/21 financial year.

We fully appreciate the difficulties being experienced by some practitioners, and we hope that these measures will help our members navigate the difficulties stemming from the COVID-19 situation.

Membership renewal notices will be sent to members in mid May 2020.

A full table of practising certificate fees is outlined below.
