Council Leadership Update

On the 28 November, members gathered for the Annual General Meeting. At the meeting members voted in favour of the new constitution and the newly elected Council members were announced.

We are pleased to share that the Attorney General has now approved the new constitution, making it effective from 29 November 2025. A copy of the constitution is available for members to view here.

On 1 December, the newly elected Council met to appoint officeholders. We are delighted to announce that Vik Sundar has been re-elected as President, and Lisa Quilty as Vice President.

The President expressed their commitment to continuing the important work of the Society, stating:

“Members have overwhelmingly chosen to support the governance changes and move forward with change. Their decision sends a strong message that our profession is committed to the standards and governance expected of a modern self-regulating body. I want to acknowledge that while we may have approached the AGM with different perspectives, the approval of the new constitution marks a new chapter. From here, we will move forward together, with a focus on collaboration and progress.

I would like to congratulate Lisa Quilty on her appointment as Vice President. I have had the benefit of working with Lisa for a number of years both as President and as her VP. Lisa has been an incredible leader in our Society and has previously led Council and the governance working group, spearheading the work that occurred in the first year of the two-year project, in addition to representing the ACT on the Law Council of Australia.

As I lead the Council into 2026, my commitment is clear: to build a stronger, more accountable, and future-focused Society that meets the needs of our members whilst acknowledging the important role we have as a regulatory body. I am deeply honoured to serve our members once again and thank both our members and Council for the trust they have once again put in me.”

With the adoption of the new constitution, an eligibility review was conducted for all elected Council members. As a result, one member was found not eligible to sit on Council. Over the course of 2026, the Council will transition to 9 members, as required under the new constitution and we will keep you informed as decisions are made.

Members are reminded that the Council has delegated the Society’s licensing and conduct functions to the Licensing Committee and the Conduct Committee.

Expressions of Interest are now open for members who would like to join these committees and make a meaningful contribution to the profession.
