Mr Athol Opas
Mr Opas’ election was declared at the Society’s AGM on Thursday, 24 September 2009. He succeeds Mr Rod Barnett (Rod J Barnett & Associates) who steps down after serving two terms as President. Mr Barnett remains on the Council as Immediate Past President.
Mr Opas has worked as a legal practitioner for over 10 years including 5 years in private practice and over 5 years as a government lawyer. He graduated from the ANU with degrees in Arts and Law including a Master of Laws.
Mr Opas served 6 years as a Councillor of the Society and the last 4 years as Vice President of the Society. As President he will bring both private and public sector experience, a detailed knowledge of the Society’s business and current issues for the local legal profession and an enthusiasm to work hard for the benefit of members.
